Medical doctors in the public sector are growing more frustrated and impatient with the Industrial Disputes Tribunal over the delay in determining the matter of overtime pay for doctors.
On Monday, a group of doctors took their frustration to the offices of the IDT where they staged a sit-in to show their disgust at the delay.
Monday marked the expiration of a three-week deadline, given by the Jamaica Medical Doctors Association for the Tribunal to hand down its ruling in the longstanding matter.
JMDA President Jubilee Brown Service said it has been almost six months since closing arguments were made in the matter, and there's "growing frustration with the delays in the handing down of a ruling from the IDT in relation to payment for or settling the matter of overtime rates for the doctors and a particular incentive that’s due to about 700 of our doctors across the island. We believe the delay is unreasonable and that’s the reason why we are restive... and there’s growing frustration.”
Dr Brown Service said the doctors are shifting gears to express their displeasure.
“ I would want to say today was the first indication of what may be possible. I'm not at liberty to speak to the details of it but we are doing our internal deliberations to formulate what our next steps will be," she added.
