"Scare Dem" gang leader among eight in court

The leader of  the "Scare Dem" Gang in the Kingston Western Police Division was among eight persons brought before the court on Wednesday under the anti-gang legislation.

Omar Spaulding,31, made his first appearance before the Corporate Area Criminal Court for breaches of  the Criminal Justice (Suppression of Criminal Organisations) Act.

He was among 13 persons charged last week with breaches of  the Act as the authorities intensified the crack down on criminal gangs.

In documents filed in court, investigators alleged that Spaulding took control of  the Scare Dem Gang last year from Omar Miller.

This triggered a violent struggle in Denham Town leading to several murders and shootings.

Investigators say the Scare Dem gang, which broke off  from the Presidential Click Gang led by former Tivoli Gardens strongman Christopher Dudus Coke, is now locked in a battle with other gangs in the area, including the Striker Gang.

Spaulding and the other accused are to return to court on Friday when their attorneys will apply for bail.

The others are Leon Williams,24, taxi operator Anthony Wright,54, Derval Findley,22, who is from Buff  Bay, Portland; Orlando Harris; Adrian Smith; Gerald Simpson and  San Sebastian Allen.
