Search continues in effort to find man swept away in flooded Sandy Gully

Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade Stewart Beckford

The search is to resume today for a man who was swept away in the Sandy Gully in St. Andrew during heavy rainfall on Tuesday.

Rahjaun Melbourne, 19, and a woman were attempting to cross the gully when they were swept away.

The woman was subsequently rescued at a section of the gully, but Mr Melbourne was not located.

Members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade and residents searched the Chesterfield area as well as the Portmore causeway in a bid to find him.

Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade Stewart Beckford told Radio Jamaica News that the search was called off due to poor visibility.

Mr Beckford is appealing to members of the public not to cross flooded areas to prevent a recurrence of Tuesday's incident
