Members of the St. Catherine North police are searching sections of the Worthy Park community for the occupants of a pickup which was swept away on Tuesday during heavy rains associated with Tropical Storm Rafael.

Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, head of the division, says sometime after 4 p.m., the driver of a pick-up motor truck was attempting to cross a flooded roadway when the vehicle was swept away.

He said the couple was reported missing on Thursday.

"Since the time that they tried to cross that flooded roadway, neither the vehicle nor the occupants have been seen. The vehicle was visible up to nightfall yesterday evening and since morning the vehicle has not been seen."

Superintendent Nicholson said the police, fire brigade and citizens have been searching for the two people.

"There are some persons from the community who went into the water and tried to see what they could do. But due to the status of the water they were not able to see much. They saw a pair of Crocs believed to be worn by one of the occupants of the vehicle," the superintendent added.

He said a team from the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard has joined the search.
