Another group of residents staged a protest on Thursday evening over the delay in the restoration of their electricity supply.
Residents of Woods Town and adjoining districts in Discovery Bay, St. Ann say after two weeks without power despite minimal damage from the hurricane, their patience has run out with the Jamaica Public Service and political representatives.
Merrick Charley told Radio Jamaica News that residents were told by a JPS representative last Thursday that if they cleared the lines of shrubs, this would speed up the process for restoration of service.
"We did that. They came back again two or three days ago, another part of the line want to clear. It clear. We hearing today, tomorrow, everyday it's another day on the electricity. There are posts that need to be changed, that have been reported to JPS years going on now, and those are the posts that failed, and they have not come and they have not addressed that situation from the original report and Beryl has exasperated that situation, so it’s unsafe for them to turn on back the electricity. We need them to come and do what it is that they are paid to do," he pleaded.
Mr. Charley said other amenities in the community, such as roads and water, are also issues of concern.
"Our roads are atrocious. You dropping in a pothole every five seconds, you don't want to go home when you driving in these conditions, and it has been this way for a while. We speak to the member of Parliament, we speak to the councillor for the area and we get no response, and we're tired of it. We want some action...we need some kind of feedback at least, to say this what we are doing. Our water situation has been bad for over two years now," he complained.
A representative of the JPS told Radio Jamaica News that electricity should be restored in Woods Town and adjoining districts this weekend.
