Ricardo Valentine, General Manager of the Port Trailer Haulage Association
Operations at the Kingston Freeport Terminal have come to a halt following the withdrawal of services by trucking companies.
The truckers are upset about the slow turn-around time when using the facility.
Ricardo Valentine, General Manager of the Port Trailer Haulage Association, said the standard turn-around time for truckers through the terminal is 30 minutes, however, this has increased to as much as 2-3 hours due to the problems being experienced at the terminal.
He said normally, truckers can make up to five trips, but now can only accomplish just one or two, resulting in them losing revenue. Their clients are also affected because they depend on the timely supplies of the truckers to meet their production needs.
Mr. Valentine has called for the Port Authority of Jamaica and other stakeholders to urgently address what he called a logistics nightmare at the Kingston Freeport facility.
