Another University student has been shot and killed by
gunmen.
This brings to two the number of University students gunned down in near similar fashion over the past two weeks.
The latest victim is 25-year-old University of the West Indies (UWI) student, Marvin Smith.
The St. Andrew Central CIB says Mr. Smith was shot dead Saturday night at his gate at Tavern Drive, Kingston 7.
According to police reports about 10:15 Saturday night Mr. Smith and two friends were at his gate when they were reportedly approached by three men armed with guns.
Investigators say the gunmen robbed Mr. Smith and his friends of mobile phones, jewellery and an undetermined sum of money.
The gunmen then ordered the robbery victims to run and opened fire hitting Mr. Smith.
He was pronounced dead at hospital.
On December 15, 21-year-old Diondra Morris was shot dead when a lone gunman opened fire on five UTECH students in Papine, St. Andrew.
Another female student was hospitalised.
The students were attacked near their boarding house while returning from a fete.
A suspect was nabbed by the police in connection with that incident.
And the death of Mr. Smith has sent shock waves throughout the campus fraternity.
A friend of Mr. Smith, who asked not to be named, says some colleagues are still in denial.
