St. Catherine South Western MP Everald Warmington and PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell
Controversial Member of Parliament for South West St. Catherine Clifford Everald Warmington has issued a public apology for his use of profanity at a Jamaica Labour Party meeting in Westmoreland on Sunday night.
The opposition People's National Party had called for the police high command to arrest and charge Mr. Warmington for his use of profanity in public.
But in a statement on Monday afternoon, Mr. Warmington acknowledged that his remarks were inappropriate and offensive.
"I recognise that my comments on the platform yesterday were inappropriate and I regret offending anyone with the comments I made, so I do withdraw them and apologise," he said.
It's understood that Mr. Warmington apologised after being spoken to by the leadership of the Jamaica Labour Party.
Speaking at a Workers' Awards ceremony in Westmoreland Central, Mr. Warmington addressed internal rumblings against member of Parliament George Wright, who was readmitted to the JLP in February following a controversial incident in 2021.
The senior JLP member, his remarks laced with profanity, urged dissatisfied supporters to vote for Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness and not let the constituency return to the PNP.
In a swift response at the Frome Divisional Conference in Westmoreland, PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell questioned whether Mr. Warmington would be punished by the JLP hierarchy.
Noting that dancehall artistes are usually charged for using "indecent language" on stage during their performances, Dr. Campbell called for the Jamaica Constabulary Force to similary charge Mr. Warmington for his behaviour on the political platform.
