Residents of Cornwall Mountain in Westmoreland say they are in shock over the tragic killing of a woman in the community by her common-law husband.
Natalie Gooden, who was found with traumatic injuries inside her home in December 9, died in hospital last Friday.
Collin James, otherwise called 'Andy', a taxi operator of Cornwall Mountain, has been charged with beating and torturing Ms. Gooden to death.
Residents alerted the police after the badly injured woman was locked inside the house by her partner.
Police officers were forced to breach the door of the house, where they found Ms. Gooden with bruises and burns all over her body.
Radio Jamaica News spoke with a resident who said the community is trying to come to grips with the tragic incident.
"Boy, the community tense a way, because we neh-nah look fi dis," lamented one resident, who told Radio Jamaica correspondent Christopher Plummer that the suspect had been thought to be mentally ill.
