Investigators from the Major Investigations Division are probing robbery as a possible motive for Monday night's mass shooting at a bar at New Roads in Leamington, Westmoreland.

Four people were fatally shot, including one of the gunmen, while four others have been hospitalised in serious condition.

Police Commissioner Dr. Kevin Blake was briefed on the incident by Commanding Officer Othneil Dobson during a meeting Tuesday at the Police Officers Club.

It's reported that about 10:20 p.m., patrons were at the Instagram Lounge when a black Toyota Fielder motorcar with four men aboard drove up.

All were armed with guns.

They opened fire at patrons who ran in different directions.

It was discovered that several people had been shot.

Four were later pronounced dead at hospital.

Three of those killed have been identified as 41-year-old tiler Damion Baker; Odane Scott, otherwise called 'Moses'; and Rocky Lawrence - all from the same community.

The fourth deceased is a man known as 'Future' or 'Pa', also from New Roads.

The police say he was one of the gunmen and was killed by his cronies.

The cops say he was found inside the bar with a bullet wound to the back of the head.

The other gunmen escaped in the car in the direction of Bethel Town.

The police say several rounds of ammunition were found in the pocket of the deceased gunman.

Two female bartenders of St. Catherine addresses and two male patrons from New Roads were admitted in hospital in serious condition.

Residents of New Roads say they have been left shocked and saddened following the deadly attack.

"Di gun, di gun is di problem. Fuss time, a did fist and rockstone, we coulda challenge dem. But now wi nah no weapon, wi nah no power," said one community member, who warned that if the authorities do not clampdown on illegal guns, incidents like this will continue.
