Woman killed, mother wounded in St. Andrew gun attack

Homicide detectives are probing a deadly shooting on Friday morning in St. Andrew which left a woman dead and her mother seriously wounded.
 
The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Maya Ashley, an accountant of Appleton Avenue, Patrick City, Kingston 20.
 
Her 49-year-old mother, a US citizen, is undergoing treatment in hospital. 
 
Investigators are probing allegations that gunmen were hired to carry out the attack which occurred about 4:30 Friday morning.
 
Radio Jamaica News was informed that Ms. Ashley went to Norman Manley International Airport to pick up her mother, who arrived in the island Friday morning from the United States. 
 
On arrival at their home along Appleton Avenue, gunmen opened fire on the vehicle.
 
Ms. Ashley, who was the driver, sped off in a bid to escape, but lost control of the vehicle after being shot multiple times. 
 
The vehicle crashed into a perimeter fence at premises on Abernathy Drive.
 
A police team responded and removed both women from the vehicle.
 
They were transported to hospital where Ms. Ashley was pronounced dead and her mother admitted in serious condition.
