Canadian Police Commission for Antigua

A Canadian, Gary Nelson was sworn in as the new Police Commissioner of Antigua and Barbuda, only a few hours after the incumbent Delano Christopher was sent on vacation leave.

This came as part of a major shake-up of the police force by the Baldwin Spencer administration.

The Police Service Commission on Friday confirmed that Mr. Nelson, who has been in the island for the past five weeks, had replaced Ms Christopher, the first female cop to rise to the top position in 2005.

The changes in the top position of the police service follow recommendations contained in the report submitted by Alphonse Breau, a retired Canadian senior officer, who had examined the functions and operations of the police service last year.
