The people of the Cayman Islands
are electing a government and voting on a new constitution.
Counting for seats on the 15-member Legislative Assembly will begin at seven o'clock Wednesday evening.
Votes on the constitution will be tallied on Thursday.
More than 15,000 people are eligible to vote in the British territory.
"Polls opened this morning at seven o'clock and closed at six o'clock this evening. We have 43 candidates contesting the 15 seats. We have a referendum underway at the moment on the modernization of the constitution which has not been modernized since 1972, that is going quite nicely as well. We won't know the results until tomorrow," said Cainie Gomez is the Chief Election Officer in the Cayman Islands.
