SKN: Gov't releases Haitian detainees to local Haitian community

The St. Kitts & Nevis government has removed 15 Haitian nationals from detention and placed them in the care of the local Haitian community.

The 15 Haitians entered the twin islands illegally in February.

The Dr. Terrence Drew-led administration says they arrived after their boat malfunctioned, but their release is for humanitarian reasons.

The authorities say since their arrival, their basic needs have been satisfied, and they have been provided with health care.

The government says it will amend legislation to strengthen efforts against human trafficking and illegal migration.
