The 2016 classic campaign officially gets underway on Saturday, April 9 with the running of the 42nd 1000 Guineas for fillies and 2000 Guineas for colts and geldings at Caymanas Park.
The 100 Guineas will have the improving and consistent ‘Nuclear Affair’, champion 2 year old of 2015 ‘Sorrentino’s Star’, ‘Simply the Best’ and ‘Dreaming The Code’ as the top contenders.
The 2000 Guineas may be contested without 2015 champion 2 year old ‘Future King’ who is nursing a hoof injury.
His absence would leave ‘Chase The Great’, ‘Orpheus’ and ‘Big Daddy Kool’ as the top contenders.
Each Guineas race will carry a purse of $3.25 million and will be contested over a mile with the island’s largest bookmaking company, Post To Post Betting being the title sponsor.
