The West Indies men could be back in the Caribbean by the end of the week, as alternative travel arrangements are now being finalized between Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Airspace closures across parts of the Middle East, triggered by ongoing military tensions between the United States and Iran, have disrupted commercial routes and delayed the team's departure from India, following their exit from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup on Sunday.
Speaking exclusively to Radio Jamaica Sports on Tuesday, Cricket West Indies (CWI) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Chris Dehring indicated that the regional body remains in constant communication with players and support staff, and outlined that a chartered flight is proposed to take the team from Calcutta to Lopdon on Wednesday or Thursday and then commercial routes to ensure a safe return home.
Meanwhile, West Indies Players' Association (WIPA) president Wavell Hinds has also confirmed that his organization is closely monitoring developments and remains in dialogue with CWI, as efforts continue to bring the squad home safely.
