Commentary on the 2017 Kentucky Derby

9-2 joint favourite Always Dreaming, ridden by jockey John Velazquez for trainer Tod Pletcher, landed the 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby, the first leg of the American Triple Crown series at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday.

Always Dreaming won in 2 minutes, 03.59 ahead of Looking At Lee; Battle of Midway and Classic Empire on a muddy track. The highly-fancied Irish War Time with Jamaican-born jockey Rajiv Maragh, finished down the track.
