Caymanas Park workers take strike action

RJR Sports understands that workers at the Caymanas Park racing complex have taken strike action and picketed the main entrance, on Thursday afternoon. The operations were halted at approximately 5:00 pm by all categories of workers.

According to our sources, the management of Caymanas Track Limited had agreed verbally to the implementation of certain benefits for the workers but up to this point, has refused to sign off on the previously-agreed issues.

The benefits agreed on verbally included a salary upgrade for members of the engineering department as well as increases in breakfast, supper and travelling allowances among other improvements for various categories of workers.

Simulcast betting has been halted for the remainder of the evening as all terminals are now inoperative.

Up to late Thursday evening, the workers were locked in a meeting with General Secretary of the Union of Technical, Administrative and Supervisory Personnel, UTASP, St Patrice Ennis, along with other union delegates and representatives of the promoting company, Caymanas Track Limited.
