New head of the West Indies selection panel and former legendary West Indies Captain, Clive Lloyd, says he will give young cricketers a chance as they look to improve the fortunes of the team in the shortest possible time.
Lloyd says our success from the World T20 Championship in 2012 has worn off and it's time the team starts competing successfully in all formats of the game, especially in the test arena, where they once ruled.
Lloyd says the time has come for the team to start winning again and youth will be a part of the way going forward.
“The point is, it is just harnessing that talent and trying to get them to the standard that is needed. We can’t be in the background, like we have been for such a long time," Lloyd said.
“I know we have won a (World) T20 Championship Cup but we need to do that," the former destructive left-hander added. "We need to be more consistent with our playing. We need to move up that ladder especially regarding the test matches and let us hope that the youngsters will realize that we want to move into a new era, and they can be a part of this new thinking,” Lloyd concluded.
Lloyd was appointed to lead the new selection committee, which also includes Ambassador Courtney Walsh and Courtney Browne.
