Costa Rica beats Australia in U-20 World Cup

Defender John Ruiz scored a 72nd minute winner to give Costa Rica a 3 – 2 win over Australia on Wednesday, August 3, boosting the country chances of reaching the second round of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Colombia.

Costa Rica’s first victory in the tournament allowed it to jump to second place in Group ‘C’, three points behind Spain.

Australia and Ecuador remain with one point each after two matches.

Australia will next face Spain, while Costa Rica plays Ecuador.

Saudi Arabia trounced Guatemala 6 – 0 on Wednesday to win its second consecutive match, securing a second-round spot.

Guatemala, which lost its opening game 5 – 0 to Nigeria, was eliminated from competition.

Ssaudi Arabia has six points from two matches in Group ‘D’.

Also Spain defeat Ecuador 2 – 0 on Wednesday and advance to the second round of the Under-20 World Cup.

The victory gives Spain six points from two matches in Group ‘C’, five more than Australia and Ecuador.

Spain will close group play against Australia and Ecuador will play Costa Rica.
