National record holder and Commonwealth Games champion Fedrick Dacres was the only Jamaican winner at the Rome Diamond League meet on Thursday. Dacres continued his good run of form this season, registering 68.51 metres to capture the men's discus throw. Andrius Gudzius of Lithuania 68.17 was second with Ehsan Hadadi of Ireland third with a throw of 65.93 metres.
Meanwhile, 2015 world champion Danielle williams was second in the 100 metre hurdles, clocking 12.82 seconds behind Sharika Nelvis of the United States 12.76. Olympic 400m bronze medallist Shericka Jackson was sixth in the women's 200 metres in 23.14 seconds. The event was won by Marie Josee Ta-Lou of the ivory coast in a season's best 22.49 seconds.
Meanwhile, in non-Diamond League events, Commonwealth Games champion Janieve Russell finished second in the 400m hurdles, crossing the line in 54.08 seconds behind Georganne Moline of the United States who clocked a season's best 53.97.
Commonwealth champion Aisha Praught-Leer could only manage eighth in the women's steeple chase despite a season's best 9 minutes, 19.33. Elsewhere in the field, Tajay Gayle leapt to a personal best 8.17 metres for 5th in the men's long jump. Stephenie-Ann McPherson ran a season's best 50.69 for second in the women's 400 metres with Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain winning the vent in a season's best 50.51.
