England complete comprehensive win in 3rd Ashes test as series ebbs and flows

Following formidable victories in the first two tests by either team, it was England's turn in the 3rd Ashes test at Edgbaston in Birmingham as they completed an 8-wicket win against  Australia inside three days to take a 2-1 lead in the 5-match series.

Australlia resumed on Friday's 3rd day on 7-168 and they hung around to score 265 all out in their second innings, as wicketkeeper Peter Nevill fought on for 59 and Mitchell Starc hit 58 against man of the match Steven Finn 6-79 who ended with match figures of 8-117.

It was a dream return to test cricket for Finn, who could very well use the new ball in the 4th test because strike bowler Jimmy Anderson will miss the match due to a side strain. Anderson, the leading wicket-taker for England in their test history, claimed six wickets in the first innings before sustaining the injury.

Australia set England 121 to win, and Ian Bell who has returned to form stroked 65 not out and England's most consistent batsman Joe Root made 38 not out as England raced to 124-2 to complete the expected victory.

Final scores: Australia 136 & 265; England 281 and 124-2.

The fourth Ashes test takes place August 6-10 at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
