Fowler sets new scoring record in Suncorp Super Netball League

Sunshine girl Jhaniele Fowler who is presently rated as the best goal shooter in the world, has broken her own Suncorp Super Netball League record for most goals in a season while steering West Coast Fever to a 68-57 victory over the Adelaide Thunderbirds in the final round of regular season matches on the weekend.

Fowler hit all 44 of her one goal attempts, moving past her old individual record of 795 goals in 2020 with her 36th shot of the night.

She currently has 804 goals with her team potentially having a minimum of two and maximum three games remaining this season.

The Adelaide Thunderbirds had the Jamaican pair of Shamera Sterling and Latanya Wilson in their line-up.

Meanwhile, the Collingwood Magpies, team of Sunshine Girls Shimona Nelson and Jodi-Ann Ward, qualified for the semi-finals in dramatic fashion by holding on to their top four place despite a 56-54 loss to the Melbourne Vixens.

The Magpies needed a victory or a narrow loss to finish ahead of defending champions New South Wales Swifts.

Nelson led the way for the Magpies with 46 goals from 47 attempts, while Ward was forced to sit out the game due to health and safety protocols.

The major semi-final will see table toppers the Melbourne Vixens hosting second place West Coast Fever on Saturday morning Jamaica time in what will also be a qualifier for the grand final.

Collingwood Magpies will head to Sydney to take on the Giants in next Sunday's minor semi-finals. The loser of the major semi-final will meet the winner of the minor-semi-final for the remaining spot in the grand finale.
