24 year old Demish Gaye clocked a personal best to defeat national champion Javon Francis over 400 metres to highlight Saturday's first of five JAAA All-Comers meets at the National Stadium. Gaye was in superb form, posting 44.85 seconds.
Francis who pulled out of the recent World Relays 4x400 final with a slight hamstring injury, ended well back in second with 46.52 seconds.
Gaye's performance bettered his previous best of 45.24 set while winning the Inter-Collegiate Championship a month ago.
Meanwhile, former Calabar High standout Michael O’Hara made his long awaited season debut, clocking 48.46 for 4th in his heat. Commonwealth Games champion Rasheed Dwyer also had an encouraging performance over 200 metres.
Aided by a 2.1 metres per second wind, Dwyer sped to 20.27 seconds to beat 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Warren Weir 20.71 and Oshane Bailey 20.86.
Chad Walker won the men's 100 metres in 10.15 but the wind was over the allowable limit at 2.3 metres per second.
World and Olympic 400 metres bronze medallist Shericka Jackson continues to show improved speed this season, winning the women's 100 in a personal best 11.24 seconds.
Olympic relay silver medallist Sasha-Lee Forbes won the 200 metres in 23.07 seconds while Junelle Bromfield landed the 400 metres in 52.37.
In the field, World Championship bronze medallist O'Dayne Richards threw a season's best 20.74 metres to win the shot put ahead of Fedrick Dacres 20.04 metres.
