Germany stunned Argentina 4-nil to eliminate the favoured South Americans at the quarter-final stage for the second straight World Cup tournament.
Germany's demolition started with a third minute goal by Thomas Mueller, and was completed with second half strikes by Arne Friedrich and Miroslav Klose.
Klose now has 14 goals to his name and is just one away from becoming the joint leading scorer in World Cup history.
Meanwhile, in a game where all the action took place in the second half, Spain edged Paraguay one-nil to increase the likelihood of the title staying in Europe.
Both teams had a penalty saved in the space of a minute but Spain struck the decisive blow seven minutes from time.
Spain will move on to Durban for a meeting with Germany, who are now the favourites to go on and lift their fourth World Cup title and their first since 1990.
In the other semi final, the Netherlands are the overwhelming favourites to book a place in the final when they meet Uruguay, who carry South America's final hope.
