JA could host the Caribbean Zone Olympic beach volleyball qualifiers

Jamaica is a possible candidate to host the second round Caribbean Zone Olympic beach volleyball qualifiers later this year.

With no countries bidding for the qualifiers, the Jamaica Volleyball Association (JaVA) looks set to be approached as its President, Warrenton Dixon is a vice-president of the regional body, the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA).

Trinidad and Tobago, which is the seat of Mushtaque Mohammed, CAZOVA President, would have been the de facto host.

However, the twin island republic will host a leg of the youth indoor tournament which is a greater financial burden.

Kerish Maharaj, CAZOVA Media Officer, explains that the responsibility could then fall to Jamaica.

"If NORCECA, (the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation), or COZAVA and the JaVA can come to an agreement (then) we (will be) able to bring tournaments, the female, (competition), which we started in July and the male, in October (to Jamaica). This is an Olympic qualifier, so it’s really something that has a very high level of wide recognition," he said.

Jamaica hosted the Caribbean junior men's indoor tournament last month at University of Technology.
