JAAA national trials date to remain unchanged

By Kayon Raynor

The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) has decided against moving the current date of the National Senior and Junior Championships which is set for June 26 to 29.

When contacted by telephone Tuesday morning, JAAA president Garth Gayle confirmed that following consultations with stakeholders, his executive has decided not to change the dates.

He declined to comment further.

Their decision comes ten days after Radio Jamaica Sports first reported that the top brass of the JAAA were having discussions to change the date to between mid-July and the start of August.

This primarily to have the trials closer to this summer's world championships, which is scheduled for September 13 to 21.

With the JAAA trials date clashing with the final leg of the Grand Slam Track in Los Angeles set for June 27 to 29, it means that Jamaican athletes, who are contracted to compete, could lose up to 20 per cent of their signing bonus once they miss one leg of the new cash-rich track league.
