The Jamaica select eleven put in a competitive performance against the touring New Zealanders on the opening day of their two day contest at the Trelawny stadium.
The largely inexperienced Jamaica side closed on 95/5 in reply to 112/6 declared by the tourists.
The Kiwis had elected to bat but failed to get any momentum in their innings. Twenty-two year-old Tom Latham top-scored with 33 while Luke Ronchi got 21.
Bowling for Jamaica, Gavon Brown claimed 2/15 while Odean Brown, Brian Buchanan, Ramaal Lewis and Christopher Powell all secured a wicket each.
The Jamaica eleven also lost wickets at regular intervals, to be 17 runs behind at the close.
Lewis ended not out on 32. Shacoya Thomas, 23, John-Ross Campbell 18, Paul palmer, 6, Brandon King, 3, and Delbert Gayle who made 4 are the men out.
Spinner Mark Craig has been the best of the New Zealand bowlers so far, with 3/17.
The match is one of two for New Zealand against Jamaica ahead of the first test against West Indies starting June 8 at Sabina Park.
