Jamaica in 'hat-trick' of defeats

By Patrick R. Anderson

Jamaica Franchise suffered its third consecutive loss in the West  Indies Cricket Board's Professional Cricket League, PCL, 4-day Championship, going down by 179 runs against Trinidad & Tobago Red Force on day-3 at Sabina Park.

The Red Force resumed on Sunday's 3rd day on 184-4 and went on to score 246 all out in their second innings, led by Kjorn Ottley 99 against Odean  Brown 3-37 and David Bernard Jr 3-49.

Set 356 to win, Jamaica Franchise looked good at 2-138 with John Campbell scoring 83 and Jermaine Blackwood 52. But once they departed, Imran Khan 6-24 triggered an all too familiar collapse to 177 all out, losing 8-wickets for 39 runs.

Final scores inside 3-days: T&T 277 and 246; Jamaica 167 and 177.

Imran Khan was named man of the match.

With West Indies home series in the pipeline against England and then Australia after the World Cup, the bright spark for the region must be the immortal performance of Barbadian and West Indies Test Opener Kraigg Brathwaite who scored his second century in the match against leaders Guyana Jaguars, to become the second Barbadian to achieve the feat in regional 4-day cricket.

Brathwaite hit 112 following his 102 in the first innings, as Barbados Pride declared their second innings closed on 241-6. Kyle Corbin made 52. This has set up an intriguing finish to the match at Kensington Oval on Monday's 4th and final day as Guyana Jaguars were set 333 to win and closed on 41-0, needing another 292 runs to win.

Vishal Singh 14 and Rajindra Chandrika 25 will resume on Monday morning.

Scores after day-3: Barbados Pride 312 and 241-6 declared; Guyana Jaguars 221   and 41-0.

Miguel Cummins took 5-63 in Guyana's first innings where Vishal Singh topscored with 60 and Chris Barnwell 56.

Over at the Beausejour Stadium in St. Lucia, Windwards Volcanoes beat the Leewards Hurricanes by 9-wickets on Sunday's 3rd day. The match effectively took 2 1/2 days, as the game ended at 1:29p.m ECT.

Final scores: Leewards 161 and 170; Windwards 249 and 84-1.
