Jamaica martial arts team successful

It was a historic achievement for the Jamaica Combined Martial Arts team at U.S. Open  International  Karate Championships in Orlando, Florida.

The Jamaicans enjoyed one of their best ever showings at the U.S. Open  International  Karate Championships, surpassing their 100 medals of last year with 114.

They garnered 37 gold, 33 silver and 44 bronze medals.

The Jamaica Taekwondo  Fighters won 12 gold, Rising Sun Karate got 1, Ningen Karate earned  10 and Sidekicks Taekwondo won 1. 

The record breaking achievement was not surprising to the head of delegation Jason McKay.

It was the junior section that the Jamaicans dominated, however, with Sabrina Richards and Akeeno Lindsay  taking home two gold medals.

 Richards who competed in the junior section for the last time won two gold medals for the third year in a row.

Lindsay who attends St. Georges College won two gold medals for the first time in his career Allando Ebanks and Scott Wright  took home one gold and two silver medals each.
