Jamaicans yet to medal at Paralympic Games

Despite personal best performances, there were no medals for Jamaica as the country's Paralympic athletes began their hunt at the International Paralympic Committee World Athletics Championships in Lyon France on Sunday.

Jamaica just missed out on a medal in the men's F54-f56 Discus when captain Tanto Campbell threw a lifetime best of 41.71 meters to place 4th. His previous best of 41.66 meters was set at last year's paralympic games in London. The event was won by Cuba's Leonardo Diaz in a world record 45.32 meters.

Sprinters Shane Hudson and David Bascoe did not advance to the men's t-46 200 meter final. Bascoe clocked a personal best 23.25 seconds to place fifth in his semi- final and failed to advance. It came as a disappointment for Bascoe who says he was seeking to emulate local hero Yohan Blake.

Despite running faster with 23.19 seconds, Hudson also finished 5th in his semi-final and did not advance. He says he's now focused on getting a medal in his better event the 400 meters.

Jamaica will continue to seek its first medal on Monday, when 2012 Paralympic Champion and hot favourite Alphanso Cunningham competes in the men's  f51-52-53 discus.
