Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) president Christopher Samuda says he wasn't surprised at the outcome of the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) presidency election at the 144th session in Greece on Thursday.

Zimbabwe's Sports Minster Kirsty Coventry won 49 of the 97 votes to take majority in the first round of voting, and become the first woman, first African and youngest person to be elected to lead the organization.

Samuda added that the members of the JOA are ready to work with Coventry. With Thomas Bach leaving office on June 23, Samuda believes that he did wonderful job in the post where he served for 12 years.

The 41 year old Coventry will take office on June 24.
World athletics president Sebastian Coe who was one of 7 candidates who contested the election for the presidency, received only 8 votes to finish a distant third.
