After being hit with news that the FINA Diving World Cup had been cancelled, Olympian Yona Knight-Wisdom is expressing relief that the organisers have had a change of heart.
FINA announced a week ago that the World Cup was cancelled due to what it cited was the inability of the Japanese authorities to ensure the safety of athletes to compete in the pandemic.
But, Knight-Wisdom, who is hunting back to back World Cup competition, told Radio Jamaica Sports FINA has reversed its decision. The May 1-6 meet represents Knight-Wisdom's final chance to qualify for this summer's Olympic Games.
While conceding that the uncertainty has impacted his preparation, the 25 year old says he will be giving it his all.
Knight-Wisdom created history when he became the first man to compete for Jamaica in diving at an Olympic Games in 2016.
