McKay wins Taekwondo title in Las Vegas

Veteran captain of Jamaica's mixed martial arts team Jason Mckay secured Jamaica's lone title at last weekend's Original Taekwondo Federation Open tournament in Las Vegas Nevada.

With team-mates Nicholas Dussard and Olympian Kenneth Edwards both sidelined by injury, Mckay turned back the clock to beat American mile walling in the final.

Mckay came through the tough final which saw both fighters trading shots.

However, the Jamaican prevailed after three points was deducted from walling for his use of illegal techniques.

“Very difficult round; a lot of contact and good competition. I’m not familiar with these fighters because I fight really on the North American circuit to the Northern side of the United States. This really is the more western side and western fighters, California, Texas, and so on. Good quality though, I felt good about the round", McKay commented.

It was Mckay's second medal in a week after taking silver at the New York Open on September 29.
