Mount Pleasant secure automatic JPL semi-final spot

Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League (JPL) leaders Mount Pleasant have booked their automatic semi-final spot with a 1-0 victory over Humble Lion at the Effortville Community Centre on Sunday.

Oquassa Chong snatched the winning goal in the 88th minute to send Mount Pleasant 5 points clear of their closest rival Tivoli with only one game remaining.

Waterhouse remain in the driver’s seat for the 6th and final playoff spot after a 3-0 victory over Molynes United in the first of a double header at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Jaheim Brown in the third minute, Revaldo Mitchell in the 65th and Javane Bryan 4 minutes later, were the scorers for Waterhouse.

Waterhouse now move three points clear of their closest rivals Montego Bay United and will have their faith in their own hands when they oppose Harbour View in the final round.

However, Montego Bay will have a chance to respond when they take on Harbour View on Monday.

Tivoli continue their push for an automatic semi-final playoff spot with a 4-1 win against bottom of the table Lime Hall Academy at the Drax Hall Sports Complex.

Steve Clarke in the 3rd and Justin Dunn in the 15th, Alton Lewis in the 68th and Rodico Wellington in the 71st were on the scoresheet for Tivoli.

Rohan Sewell scored Lime Hall’s consolation in the 39th. Tivoli remain in second on 51 points.

Cavalier who are also on 51 points, crucially defeated Dunbeholden 4-2 at Dunbeholden in a must win game for both teams.

Cavalier was led by a double from Jerome McLeary in the 21st and 49th. With the three points, Cavalier keep pace with Tivoli for an automatic semi-final place. With the loss, Dunbeholden are out of contention for the 6th and final playoff spot.

In the late kickoff which was the second encounter of the double header at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex 5th place Arnett Gardens and 4th place Portmore United played out a 1-1 draw.

Chevaughn Walsh gave Portmore the lead in the 19th minute, while Rushane Thompson equalized in the 63rd minute for Arnett Gardens.
