Mount Pleasant secure regular season top spot in JPL

Former champions Mount Pleasant FA will finish the regular season of the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League (JPL) as the number one team following their 2-0 win over Arnett Gardens on Thursday to seal top spot at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.

Securing the number one spot was the last serious piece of business Mount Pleasant had to do before the semi-finals. They were on their way when Raheem Edwards sent them in front after just 5 minutes.

And with half time fast approaching, Jashaun Anglin silenced the home crowd further when he fired home for a 2-0 cushion, as Mount Pleasant moved to an unassailable 84 points with four games to play.

In the day's opener, Cavalier beat Racing United 3-0 to move to within one point of securing a playoff spot. Shaquille Stein in the 25th minute, Dwayne Allen in the 45th and Jalmaro Calvin in the 83rd, were the scorers.

The defeat pushed racing further back in their quest for a top six place. They remain 8th on 48 points, four behind sixth placed Waterhouse with three games to go.
