No plan to retire from table tennis - Michael Hyatt

Michael Hyatt, one of Jamaica's most outstanding national table tennis players, has declared that he has no plan to retire from the sport any time soon.

Hyatt, who was a member of Jamaica's team which won Category Five at the World Championships in China last year, also represented the country at the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games.

He told RJR Sports that he is looking to qualify for the 2016 Games in Brazil as well. 

"I'm feeling great; I'm 44, but I feel like 24!" he said.

Regarding his physical conditioning, he said "I'm the lightest I've been in 12 years, I'm in good shape."

As part of his preparations for the 2016 Olympics, Hyatt disclosed that he will be playing in the European league this year, with "a good chance to qualify..."

Mobay tournament

Hyatt, who is based in the United States, also revealed that his plans to stage the inaugural Winter Open Table Tennis Tournament at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, are now at an advanced stage.

In that regard, he said he had been having discussionns with possible sponsors and the Minister responsible for Sports, among others.

"I'm very excited about what this is going to do for the youngsters, the youth, table tennis in Jamaica, in general, to re-energise the sport," he said, looking forward to getting table tennis "to where we used to be."
