Elaine Thompson produced the fastest time at low altitude this year to highlight the opening day of the NCB Intercollegiate Track and Field Championships at the National Stadium.
The 22 year old Utech athlete battled a -1.1 m/s wind, to stop the clock at 11.10 secs. Only Angela Tenorio of Ecuador has run faster with her 11.09 at high altitude.
Thompson's time was one of eight records on the opening day, bettering the 11.33 set by Sherone Simpson in 2005. Chanice Bonner also of Utech placed second in 11.44 ahead of Kediesha Dallas of G.C. Foster College 11.49 for third.
The defending male and female champions G.C Foster College and UTECH have accounted for all of the records, having broken 4 apiece.
Commonwealth Games Bronze medallist Janieve Russell of Utech captured the women's 400 metre hurdles title in a new record 55.83 seconds replacing the old mark of 56.41.
Ronda whyte of G.C Foster College was second with 57.41, while 2014 champion Rushell Clayton of UWI was third in 59.41.
Former World Junior representative Simoya Campbell of Utech removed her own record as she won the 800 metres in 2 minutes 06.81 seconds.
The lone record to fall on the men's side, went to andre clarke of G.C. Foster College in the 400m hurdles in a time of 50.09 seconds.
Jamie Demms of Utech with 51.87 and Jamar McNaughton of UWI Mona with 52.11 rounded out the top three.
The other records to fall came in the women's discus throw as G.C Foster college's Tara-sue Barnett heaved 53.86 metres to erase the old mark of 49.86 .
The 3000 metre steeplechase also saw a new mark being established as G.C. Foster College's Daneille James won in 11 minutes 44.85 seconds while Isheka Binns set a new record of 46.52 metres in the women's Javelin Throw.
Among the other stand out performers were Andrew Fisher who won the men's 100m in 10.18 ahead of his Utech team-mate Kemarley Brown who stopped the clock at 10.21. The record is held by Asafa Powell at 9.90 from 2003.
With 22 finals set to be contested today, G.C Foster holds a ten point advantage, 90-80, over Utech in the female standings with UWI third on 42 points.
UTECH lead the men with 84, ahead of G.C Foster on 74 and UWI 68.
