Wendell Downswell, Coach of the National Under-17 football team, has settled on the squad he thinks will fulfill Jamaica's world cup qualifying bid.
On Saturday, four players, including United Kingdom-based Patrick Hadden, were cut from the squad which is now at the village in Montego Bay, St. James.
St. George's College player Nico Campbell, Romario West from José Marti High in St. Catherine and Rennico Clarke from Seaforth High are the other players omitted from the final 20.
The young Reggae Boyz will begin their Under-17 World Cup qualifying bid on Tuesday against Trinidad and Tobago at Catherine Hall.
"We have all the confidence these players can deliver the goods but it won’t be an easy task. The first game is against Trinidad and Tobago, which like most of the Caribbean teams are highly motivated, but we will be up to the task," Downswell said.
Captain Omar Holness shares the coach's confidence saying the young Reggae Boyz will not be disheartened by their 1-0 defeat by Costa Rica in Thursday’s final practice match before the start of the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship on February 14.
The youngest player on the squad is 14 year old Jamaica College player Junior Flemmings, who scored 10 goals in the recently concluded ISSA Schoolboy football Manning Cup.
