Schoolboy football season kicks off

Another eagerly anticipated ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel schoolboy football season kicks-off Saturday afternoon, with a triple header at Jarrett Park in St. James.

All-island champions St. George’s College will begin the defence of their Corporate Area Manning Cup title against St. Jago in the 1 o'clock opening encounter.

The competition hit by the late withdrawal of Kingston and Haile Selassie High schools, is now down to 42 schools.

St. George’s College has lost five members of last season's starting team but Coach Neville Bell remains optimistic.

St. Jago fancies its chances of winning the opener knowing that Marvin Morgan, last season's top striker, will be among those missing from the St. George's line-up.

St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) will kick-off their rural area schoolboy DaCosta Cup defence against Lacovia High in Zone F.

STETHS defeated Lacovia twice on their way to the title last season and Coach Andrew Edwards expects another win on Saturday.

Spot Valley High will play 2008 DaCosta Cup champions St. James High in the final game of the day.

RJR's HITZ 92FM will have live commentary on the first two matches.
