West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph has joined Lucknow Super Giants as replacement for England quick Mark Wood in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). The deal is reportedly worth US $360,000.
It's understood that the England and Wales Cricket Board pulled Wood, a centrally-contracted player, out of IPL 2024 to manage his workload, with the T20 World Cup scheduled in June and England hosting West Indies and Sri Lanka for test matches at the home this summer.
Recently, the ECB had prevented Jofra Archer from being a part of the IPL 2024 auction as it manages his comeback from injury leading up to the T20 World Cup.
Since his exploits in Australia, Joseph also landed a deal with Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League which begins on February 17.
It means Joseph could miss the entire regional 4-day season ahead of the Windies next Red ball tour in July against England. The 24 year old could also be included in the Windies T20 squad for the World Cup in June.
