74 year old Dieter Strack an experienced sports judge was the victim of a tragic accident while carrying out his duties on Aug. 26.
He was adjudicating at a youth athletics event in Duesseldorf when he was accidentally speared through the throat by a javelin at a meet yesterday .
The elderly official had reportedly gone to measure a javelin throw, but was hit by the object as it landed.
He was rushed to hospital.
He died of his injuries early this morning.
The 15-year-old athlete who threw the javelin is reportedly receiving psychological counselling.
Seven spectators who witnessed the accident were also given counselling at the scene as police evacuated the stadium.
