The Jamaica Tallawahs finally ended their three match losing streak in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after recording a 4 wicket win over the Barbados Tridents at Sabina Park on Sunday. Electing to field, the Tallawahs bowlers put up their best performance this season, restricting the tridents to 140-9 off their 20 overs.
Ashley Nurse 37 and JP Duminy 31, were the only batsmen who got passed 15 for the Tridents. Zahir Khan led the way for the Tallwahs with 3-20 while George Worker and Ramaal Lewis chipped in with two wickets each. In reply, the Tallawahs were cruising at 48-0 after the loss of Glen Phillips for 28 and Chris Gayle 22, they stumbled and were 68-4 at one stage.
However, stand-in captain Chadwick Walton and Javelle Glen had a 45 run 5th wicket partnership to help guide the Tallawahs to their target of 145-6 with 9 balls to spare. Man of the Match Walton ended unbeaten on 51 while Glen scored 27.
Captain Jason Holder had two wickets for the tridents. Despite recording their first victory of the tournament, the Jamaican franchise remains bottom of the 6 team table. The Tallawahs will hope for win number 2 when they take on leaders Guyana Amazon Warriors on Wednesday.
