Thompson takes silver in men's 100m final at Paris Olympics

Kishane Thompson earned silver in his debut global championship appearance to take Jamaica's medal tally to three at the Olympic Games in Paris, France on Sunday.

Thompson was edged out by world champion Noah Lyles in a photo finish, with the american taking it by 5 thousandth of a second, both running 9.79 seconds. The other Jamaican who made the final, Oblique Seville, was 8th in 9.91 seconds.

Earlier, Natoya Goule-Toppin missed out on making yet another global championship final as her 1:59.14 saw her finishing 6th in her semi-final.

Jevaughn Powell made automatic progress to Tuesdays men’s 400m semi-final. National champion Deandre Watkin and Sean Bailey will have to go through the repechage round if they are to earn a place in the 400 semis.
