Jamaica’s path to the 2014 football World Cup in Brazil got a bit more difficult on Friday night when the Reggae Boyz were defeated 2-1 by the United States at Jamaica’s National Stadium in Kingston.
The result leaves Jamaica rooted at the bottom of the points table in CONCACAF final round qualifiers.
The first goal came in the 29th minute from a header by Jozy Altidore. The Jamaicans showed tremendous fighting spirit thereafter and equalized through substitute Jermaine Beckford in the 89th minute. One minute later, Jamaican joy turned to anguish when Bradley Evans scored the all important second goal for the United States.
The loss for Jamaica means the Reggae Boyz remain on two points while the Americans have now jumped from four to seven points.
