The RJR Sports Centre understands that the former Jamaica Captain Wavell Hinds,
who was for months touted by many as a future West Indies
skipper, is set to retire from the international and regional scene.
The 31-year old told team mates of his decision in an emotional setting after Jamaica went down by nine wickets to Trinidad and Tobago in the Stanford Twenty/20 final in Antigua on Sunday.
Hinds is set to put pen to paper on a three year contract with the new International Premier League, which is endorsed by the sports governing body the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The left hander, who has not played test cricket since 2005 and a one day international in almost two years, also signed a one year deal as a
Kolpak player for English County side, Derbyshire.
Hinds' opening partnership with current Jamaica skipper Chris Gayle for the West Indies is one of the best in recent years.
They made 1,687 runs together at an average of 41.15 in one day internationals.
The highlight of Hinds career came in 2003 when he made successive one day hundreds against Australia in Grenada, both unbeaten and both in victories for the West Indies.
He also made 165 against Pakistan in just his fourth test match in Barbados.
