Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says a decision will be made soon following calls from the Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ), for the urgent importation of supplies of the drug Ivermectin to treat COVID-19 patients.
On Friday, the Health Minister said the public health team is examining the findings of studies on the drug.
As was reported by Radio Jamaica News yesterday, an international study shows that Ivermectin cuts Covid infections, hospitalizations and deaths by about 75 per cent.
Ivermectin is used to treat parasitic infestations but the Medical Association of Jamaica says the drug has proven to contain anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties which can guard against the coronavirus.
