Disparities in the pay scales under the Government's new compensation regime remains a point of contention for teachers.
Patrine Daley-Chambers, Senior Teacher at St. Elizabeth Technical High School, explained Tuesday on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines, that trained and untrained teachers have been grouped together with no consideration of the experience of the respective teachers.
She added that under the new compensation package, teachers with years of experience would be getting a salary similar to a teacher just entering the profession.
Public school teachers at various schools protested on Monday against the offer from the Government under the wage restructuring exercise.
Donovan Edwards, Secretary of the St. Catherine Teachers Association, who also spoke on Beyond the Headlines, said the salary increases teachers earn from upgrading their educational qualifications has been reduced.
He said, while the teachers will still receive some compensation for the upgrade, the frequency of the increase and amount have been reduced.
