Instructors at the HEART Trust/ NTA reportedly restive

Instructors at the HEART Trust/ NTA are reportedly restive.

The instructors are demanding that the agency’s management and their bargaining unit, the Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) address several work-related and salary issues.

In a two page letter, a copy of  which was obtained by RJR News, the instructors highlighted what they said was the reported refusal by the management to honour a salary agreement.

It's understood that, under the agreement, instructors are to be paid a 22.5% differential in salary over their colleagues in the regular school system.

It's understood that this differential is predicated, in part, on the fact that instructors do not get a summer break and work longer hours than teachers in the regular school system.

In the meantime, it was revealed that a reclassification exercise, affecting the instructors, was conducted in 2007. It is being claimed, however,  that neither the JTA nor the instructors were informed about this.
