JamaicaEye camera network being increased

The Ministry of National Security says it is steadily increasing the network of  cameras under the JamaicaEye programme.

The number of cameras has grown from 180 to 840.

Arvel Grant, Senior Director in the Major Technology Transformation Branch in the Ministry, told JIS that closed circuit televisions (CCTVs) were recently installed at strategic locations in Santa Cruz and Black River in St. Elizabeth.

Mr. Grant said the cameras will be brought fully online by the end of the month.

He disclosed that expansion continues through both Government-owned cameras and private partnership.

Mr. Grant noted that members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force are leveraging the cameras installed across the country to assist the investigation of crime and maintaining public order.
